| Bio: | canon character/series: Hitachiin Hikaru // Ouran High School Host Club name: Hikaru– he’s never particularly been one for nicknames, and prefers to just use his name, though he of course drops the family name Hitachiin. age: 16 gender: Male race/ethnicity: Human/Japanese sexuality: This is a bit complicated with Hikaru. He is most probably classified as heterosexual/straight— however (and it’s a big however); he is clearly (though not yet admittedly) in love with his twin brother, Kaoru. This obviously clashes with his sexual orientation—but the truth is that he is in love with Kaoru as a person, and it has nothing to do with his/their gender. He has no real interest in other men, though he will flirt with just about anybody, just to get a rise out of them. appearance: 5’9” and slim. Like Kaoru, he has auburn (red-brown) hair, which changes styles often, but (usually) remains parted to the right. His eyes are bright orange, almost amber-colored. Clothes-wise, Hikaru tends to wear whatever he feels like, but is usually quite aware of style, given his background; he’s very good at choosing stylish clothes that are also comfortable. He has a particular fondness for leather—but doesn’t wear it often, as it can be quite uncomfortable for working in (obviously.) He’s also a fan of the color blue. personality: Hikaru is the elder of the twins, and a tad louder in his personality than Kaoru; he has a short temper and can be set of easily, and could be considered obnoxious at times (though he doesn't necessarily mean to be.) Hikaru is very enthusiastic about life and anything that he decides is worth his time; he loves practical jokes and getting into trouble. Hikaru has a somewhat off-tilt view of the world in general, and sometimes has trouble relating to people. He's very close to Kaoru, and can be possessive of him at times. Despite this, he can survive without Kaoru (if he has to), though without his brother around he tends to keep to himself more than when he’s around—he actually relies on Kaoru more than he would like to admit to himself. abilities/weaponry: Hikaru has no real training in any weaponry, aside from bits and pieces of things that were taught in school; fencing, kendo, etc. He does have an interest in that sort of thing, though, so he would probably pick up sword/bow/whatever relatively easily. Hikaru knows bits of various languages, but doesn’t particularly excel at any of them. He is quite good at math, but doesn’t particularly enjoy it—in fact, Hikaru isn’t very enthusiastic about almost anything that would be considered a school subject. (He was never great at school because sitting in class bored him.) weaknesses: He tends not to think before he acts, reacting to things more by feeling than by logic, and has a fierce temper at times. Patience is something he lacks, though more so when Kaoru isn’t around—his twin has a calming effect on him. He often has trouble expressing himself, and isn’t particularly good with words. Hikaru’s other major weakness is Kaoru himself—he sometimes has trouble seeing beyond him, and as much as Kaoru is an asset, this can also be a problem. If Kaoru is in any sort of trouble, Hikaru will drop everything to help him without a second thought, so matter the situation. If they happen to get into an argument, he will be distracted and lack concentration until they patch things up. Because of their upbringing, Hikaru sometimes doesn’t understand the “commoner” world, and things within it—which causes small problems from time to time, but hasn’t been a huge problem as of yet. history: Hikaru grew up in a wealthy family, with his twin brother (Kaoru), their mother, and their father. Their mother was a fashion designer—hence Hikaru’s knowledge of style, etc.—and their father worked for a software company. He and Kaoru spent most of their lives living in a world consisting of “us” and “not us”, where they never grew close to anyone other than themselves. They played jokes and tricks on people for fun, and have kept up a long-time game of trying to get people to guess who-is-who between them. In high school, things began to change when they met Suoh Tamaki and joined the Host Club—where they eventually met Fujioka Haruhi, the first person who was ever able to tell them apart. This was surprising to both of them, and Haruhi was the first to become close to them; Hikaru found Haruhi interesting and unique in the way she interacted with them, and began spending time with her because of it—not noticing that Kaoru was pulling away from him and encouraging him to spend time with Haruhi and get to know her better. In the Host Club, he and Kaoru use the fact that they’re twins to their advantage, acting out love scenes and alluding to an incestuous relationship between them. What Kaoru doesn’t realize is that for Hikaru, there’s more to that idea than just “acting”—he truly does love Kao, and has for some time. This is why, when Kaoru decided to join a pirate crew and up and left, he followed shortly after. His own interest in pirates was similar to his twin’s—because the life was so different than the one he was used to—but that was a secondary reason for him.
